Erica Ryan

Hi, I'm Erica

Fractional leadership. Strategy and innovation. Design services.

I'm a researcher, strategist, and designer with a mission: creating transformative growth that's sustainable for everyone.

The Through-Line

A single story arc

Over the course of my career, I've found that my experience, expertise, and varied passions to make things that are beautiful and useful all ladder up to one thing: I do good work. That matters. To real people.

A Core Belief

Do good work.

My core belief is that we have the power to create positive impacts at the intersection of business, the people who run them, and the communities those businesses are a part of.

Graduate School

In my spare time

Texas State University

Communication Design MFA

Earning a Master of Fine Arts in the Communication Design program, within the School of Art & Design at Texas State University, in beautiful San Marcos. Expected graduation December 2026.

Operation Diversify

Graduate thesis research: Operation Diversify

Scholarly and applied research developing my graduate thesis topic: Operation Diversify — The Power & Potential of Democratizing Design: Adapting HCD Methods for At-Risk Small Producers in the Texas Hill Country.

The thought is that if my solution can help this group diversify their farming and ranching businesses, any entrepreneurial individual or small business can use it to future-proof by creating new, sustaining income streams.

Off the Clock

A few of my favorite things

My two dogs — Bowie, a ginormous 110-pound chocolate lab, and Queenie, a tiny 8-pound wirehair dachshund with an attitude. All the swims. Travel, and especially traveling to scuba dive; most recent trips have been to Koh Lanta, Thailand, and Cozumel, the world's second largest barrier reef.

Traveling to eat. Traveling to see art. Kitchen experiments. Daily painting and drawing. Camping, hiking, cycling. Texas BBQ. Foofy coffee. Seeing bands in tiny dives. Skulls and bones and the macabre in general. Cool rocks. And allllll manner of glittery thangs.

Orgs That Matter to Me

Showing up for my community

Lazy S Ranch, established 1880

Lazy S Ranch

Helpin' ma paw manage our 150-year-old cattle ranch in Menard County, Texas, settled by my great-great-greats. It's pure magic as far as the eye can see and then some, and it's where our family raises a mix of dorper sheep, boer goats, and black angus beef cattle.

The Ghisallo Cycling Initiative

The Ghisallo Cycling Initiative

Our mission is to help people access the world by bike. We envision a community of comfortable, confident, lifelong riders. With a focus on exploration, navigation, and transportation, we create the opportunity for people to explore their communities, learn to navigate, and access their interests by bike.
